Vineyard: The fruit is sourced from 3 vineyards: Vinha da Pisca, Vale do Pinhao and Ferrao in the Cima Corgo. The average age of the vines is over 30 years old.
Orientation: Each vineyard has a different orientation.
Viticulture: practicing organic, hand harvested
Vinification: foot trodden in lagares before fermentation.
Aging: This tawny is aged for 4.5 years in small casks at the Niepoort cellar in the coastal city of Villa Nova de Gaia. Many other tawnies on the market are aged inland in the Douro valley in much warmer cellars to speed up the aging process and make the wines seem older sooner. Niepoort does not do this and sticks to the cooler aging temperatures in their coastal cellar so as not to burn any of the flavors of the port.
Notes: Brick red / tawny in color, with delicate nutty aromas and a hint of dried fruits. On the palate, very well balanced with a youthful fruity, luscious character, which integrates well with a long spirited finish.
