The Château Chatelier label comes to us from the Chatelier family, also owners of Château Cantelaudette in the Graves de Vayre appellation. Made in a bistro style by fourth generation vigneron, Jean-Michel Chatelier, this blanc and rouge duo is sourced from younger estate vines within the appellation and is perfect for everyday drinking. Today, Jean-Michel's daughter, Margaux, has assumed ownership of the winery, although she spends most of her time in Paris where she is also a successful film actress (she had a prominent role in the "Drops of God" series). She, along with her father and a local regisseur help to run the day-to-day operations of the winery.
Jean-Michel’s vineyards are located between the cities of Bordeaux and Libourne in the northern part of the Entre-Deux-Mers region on a plateau overlooking the Dordogne River. A sunny exposure, meticulous canopy maintenance, and the beneficial influence of the river ensure that the grapes ripen evenly and maintain acidity and freshness. The microclimate of the region and its soils, which depending on the altitude are composed of clay-gravel, silt-gravel, or sand-clay, are particularly suited to Merlot which comprises most of Jean-Michel’s 60 hectares, along with some Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. For the white, he uses predominantly Sémillon (85%) blended with Sauvignon.
Jean-Michel is committed to improving the impact of farming on the environment and has obtained the demanding Haute Valeur Environnementale certification, which reflects excellence in the areas of biodiversity, plant protection, management of fertilizer use and management of water.
The Château Chatelier blanc and rouge are always go-to's in the Polaner portfolio for their utter deliciousness and exceptional value. This is French bistro wine all the way!
